Kiwanis Park

The Kiwanis Club of Utica-Shelby Township sponsors Whispering Woods Park off of 21 Mile Road. Over the years, our monetary donations and volunteering hours have dramatically improved the park.

This includes wonderful amenities such as its baseball field(s), playground and pavilion areas. We’ve also hosted many community-focused events at this location, including our Bicycle Safety Rodeo.

StoryWalk® Project

Visit our StoryWalk at Whispering Woods Kiwanis Park, located at 11000 21 Mile Rd in Shelby Township. Kids will enjoy walking through the park’s nature trails while reading a story. Members of the Utica Shelby Kiwanis Club care about creating a fun, healthy environment focused on literacy that will ignite kids’ imaginations through the art of storytelling.

“The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.”

Adopt a Family Program

Every year our Club adopts several families in the area and provides them with food and gifts around the holidays. This event is a favorite for those who participate as you get to meet the families you shop for.

Some people need extra help, especially around the holidays. To make someone’s holidays brighter is a joy that cannot be described. The lasting impression this leaves is incredible to say the least!

Backpack Donations

Many children go into a new school year without necessary supplies which often causes stress and feelings of being left out. Our club helps combat these feelings by filling backpacks with school supplies so kids who need it most can start off the school year on the right foot. Providing these supplies helps students become more engaged, confident and excited about learning.

Park Events

We take great pride and ownership of Whispering Woods Kiwanis Park. We are continuing to make improvements to the park to create an inviting space to spend time. A part of that includes hosting events, like Pumpkin Painting in the fall, and themed celebrations when we install a new book in our StoryWalk.

Signature Fundraising Events

The club hosts 4-6 signature fundraising events each year in which the proceeds help support several of our community initiatives, including the installation of wheelchair ramps, providing food and monetary support to underserved families.

We work with several other charitable organizations that share in our desire to make the world a better place one child and one community at a time. See our highlighted Non-Profit Partnerships for additional details.
